iPad のスタンドを自作してみる – Macintosh iPad Stand
iPad は iPhone に比べ、画面が大きいためデジタルフォトフレームにも適したデバイスです。
デジタルフォトフレームとして使う場合には、iPad を立てておけるスタンドがあると便利。
そこで、Apple の純正スタンドも良いのですが、せっかくなので自作することにしました。
まずは情報収集が必要ですね。
古いMacを起動してちょっと調べてみる事にしましょう。
「起動画面がおかしくない？」
「この頃のMacはコードレスでしたっけ？」
「この形の Mac にカラーモニターはないだろ？」
うーん、ボケが今ひとつでした。
見たままでありますが、 Macintosh Classic を iPad のスタンドに加工してみました。
デジタルフォトフレームのためのスタンドとして使える事が一番の目的なので、まずは iPad の “写真”アプリにて、スライドショーを実行した動画から。
(動画をテスト版から、正式版に変更しました。カメラを変えたから画質も良くなったと思います。)
もともと画面に角度がついていますから、デジタルフォトフレームとしてなかなか良い感じに仕上がりました。
その他、いくつかのアプリを使用してみた感想です。
標準の “地図”アプリはもちろん快適に使用できます。
パラパラめくれる時計アプリ、FlipTime XL です。
置き時計としてもなかなか良いスタイルだと思います。
標準の Webブラウザ “Safari” で、Apple と、Yahoo! のページを表示。
もともとの Macintosh Classic のディスプレイは モノクロ 9インチで 512 × 342 ピクセルの解像度でしたが、iPad は LEDバックライトを備えた IPS LCD カラー 9.7インチで 1024 x 768 ピクセルの解像度。
画素数比で約5.5倍にもなっているのですね。
Macintosh Color Classic の 512 × 384 インチのカラーディスプレイでWebの画面を見た時も感動でしたがやはり小さいなと思いましたから。
ほぼ同じ寸法でありながら iPad のWebブラウザは、充分使えます。
ピアノアプリの ProKeysは、画面が垂直に近いのでちょっと無理がありました。
料理のレシピアプリ、Epicurious は良い感じに使えますね。
キッチンのカウンターに置いても良さそうです。
絵本&ゲームアプリの ToyStory Read-Along は、昔よくあった マノレチメディア CD-ROM のようで違和感がないですね。でもCD-ROMドライブを持っていなかったこの形の Macintosh で使っていると思うと不思議。
商品カタログの IKEA Catalogue 2010 UK は、iPhone専用アプリのため2倍に拡大表示していますが、画像の解像度が高いのでこのサイズでもキレイに見ることができます。
絶対おすすめの日本発の電子書籍ビューワアプリ i文庫HD ですが、うーん、やっぱり書籍は手に取って読みたいですね。しっかり固定するスタンドに立てるとちょっと読みづらいかも知れません。

次にゲームですが、JirboSaysHD などのような iPad 本体を動かさないゲームにはスタンドの安定感が抜群(!)のため、実に良い感じです。
一方、iPad の傾きを感知する加速度センサーを利用するゲームはおかしな事に…
Labyrinth 2 HD とか、Macintosh を持ち上げて操作？
まあ、中身はほとんど空っぽなので、できない事はないですが。
同様に、iPad の向きを変えながら遊ぶ AuroraFeint 3 なども私の大好きなゲームですが、このスタンドは腕力を鍛えるには最適です。
Air Hockey のように相手と向き合って対戦するゲームもこの角度のままでは首を痛めるでしょう。
水準器アプリの Clinometer HD を使うと、Macintosh を置いた場所がどれくらい傾いているか良くわかりますね。Macintosh には持ち運びできる取っ手がありますので大変便利かも知れません。(いやいや)
iPad には、方位磁石も内蔵されているので、セカイカメラ for iPad のような楽しいアプリもこのスタンドでは… 使いにくいです。
ふざけるのはこれくらいにして、このスタンドに向いているなと思ったのは、Pocket Pond HD のようなアプリですね。
リアルなグラフィックスで鯉が池を泳ぐ様子を鑑賞できるものですが、アクアゾーン (Aquazone) を思い出します。
また、popplet のようなフローチャートやマインドマップを描くアプリも クラリスワークスなどを使っているようで良い感じです。
Macintosh の左右幅と iPad の長辺は、意図したかのようにほとんど同じ長さです。
最初、その事に気づいた時 iPad をぴったり内蔵できたらよいなと思いましたが、筐体の厚み分わずか2〜3mm のところで無理でした。
結局、Macintosh の左側面に iPad を差し込めるだけのスリットを作りました。
ここに iPad を入れると左側面のツラがぴったり合い、正面から見てちょうど iPad がきれいに隠れる状態です。
iPad の背面はカーブして盛り上がっているため、その分余計にスリットを広げる必要があり、収納した時にその隙間が気にはなるところです。
画面のサイズについては先ほども触れていましたが、表示できる領域も Macintosh よりも iPad の方が一回り広いため現状では左右、上部が少し隠れています。
(各アプリの写真からも分かるものがあると思います。)
また、Macintosh のモニタはCRTであったため表面がカーブしていました。
その曲面に合わせて筐体も作られているので、完全に平面な画面を持つ iPad を入れてぴったり合うわけはなく、一番広いところで8mmほど隙間が空いています。
余裕があれば、iPad の画面を全て表示し、隙間が目立たないように加工したいですね。
あと致命的なのは、ホームボタンを押す事ができないのです。
ホームボタンの位置に穴をあけてボタンをつける事もできますが、Macintosh のすっきりしたフェイスが変わってしまうのもどうかと思いますので今後の課題ですね。
正面からではなく、横から押せるような仕組みをつけるか、ホーム画面を呼び出すボタンを備えたiPad 用のキーボードの使用を考えています。
理想はワイヤレスキーボードですが、ホーム画面の呼び出しができるのは直接接続する iPad Keyboard Dock だけなのでしょうか？
(そうだとしたら、延長ケーブルでつなぐしかないかな？)
Apple iPad Keyboard Dock (JIS)
専用キーを搭載し、ホーム画面、Spotlight検索、ディスプレイの明るさ、ピクチャフレームモード、オンスクリーンキーボード、スクリーンロックといったiPadのさまざまな機能をワンタッチで呼び出せます。
iTunes との同期や、充電、音声の出力などにはケーブルの接続が必要ですが、できればこれらも無線でできるようになってほしいですね。
また手を入れたら情報を更新します。

はじめまして
このサイトを拝見して衝撃を受けました
昔カラークラシックを使っていた身としては、あの筐体で是非こういったことを再現したい
と考えていた矢先でした。
早速ですが、見受けるに新品っぽい筐体ですが、この筐体だけどこかで販売されて
いたのでしょうか？
筐体が売っているならば私も是非チャレンジしたいと思います

このMacintoshは10年くらい前に友人から譲り受けた物で、数年前にFDDが壊れてそのまま置いてあった物です。
前のオーナーが大切にされていたので、確かに外観は結構きれいですね。
今でもきれいなコンパクトマックが入手できるようなところってあるでしょうかね？
Vintage Computer さん (http://www.vintagecomp.com/) でも最近は一体型は取り扱ってないようですし、あとはオークションでしょうか？
ちなみにですが、Macintosh Classic の筐体はこの改造に最適な内部構造をしていました。
内側には爪や突起がいくつかあるのですが、サイドのスリットからiPadを入れると、その爪の上にちょうど乗る高さで画面の位置がモニタの枠にほぼぴったりあってしまいました。
つまり、支持構造など付け足す必要がありませんでした。
使った工具は、プラスチック用のカッターと耐水ペーパーのみです。
他の一体型Macでも同じような構造かどうか分からないのですが、良い筐体が手に入ったら是非お試しください。

すばらしいアイディアですね。
わたしも同じクラッシックの筐体があるのでやってみたいですね。
また手元にあるパフォーマ575の画面にあててみたらちょっとブラウン管の方が大きかったです。これならブラウン管を外してから後ろに板でもはって、マジックテープで押さえればホームボタンも使えます。
工作するのが楽しみです。

Apple公式のBTキーボードなら、Escキーがホームボタンになると聞きました。
まだiPadもKBも届かないので自分で確認ができず申し訳ありません。

ちなみに、うちには前の白いBlueToothキーボード(日本語)があるのですが、iPadに接続できませんでした。
今のアルミのワイヤレスキーボードは、USでも日本語でも大丈夫なんですよね？

昔のメンブレンンタイプのBTキーボードは接続できないようですね。
今の薄型パンタグラフタイプでないと。
自分のiPadは18日前後に到着する予定なので、
もしよろしかったらその後レポートしたいと思いますので、
そちらを御覧下さい。

追記。
僕はUS配列のキーボードを購入しましたが、
JIS配列でも”英語←→ローマ時入力”は可能らしいですね。
Command+スペースで切り替え可能らしいです。
ただ、かな入力はできないと聞きました。

すばらしい！
横からスライドさせてipadを入れるアイデアに脱帽です。
加工もすごくきれいですね。
実は当方、MacPlusにカラーの液晶を取りつけて使用しております。

しかも、MacPlus。
私のはちょっと切り欠いただけなので、恥ずかしいんですが。
NP11-Vは、たしかに魅力的で液晶モニタの裏に貼付けたらよさそうだなとありきたりの事を思っていましたが、液晶画面込みで内蔵とは考えませんでした。

あとSE30があるので、ぜひhiracさんの方法でやってみたいです。
ipadのitunesから、Airmac expressのオーディオ出力が使えるようになったら良いなと思っております。（たしか今は使用できなかったかと…）
本当はMac miniを入れたかったのですが、安さでNP-11にしてしまいました。ipadはファンなんか当然ないし無音なのでまさに理想的だと思います。
詳細取り付け方法、期待しております。

Macintosh Classicを今でも、お持ちだったところが驚きです！！
私自身は使ったことがありませんが、システムを意地でインストールしている現場を見たことがあります。
iPadのサイズとMacintosh Classicのサイズが同じだったところが、凄いですね！
さすがに、Appleの社員も思いつかなかったのではないでしょうか？
というか・・・・・・・
社員でもMacintosh Classicを見たこと無い方もいらっしゃるかもしれませんね！

画面のサイズがほぼ同じというのは、偶然だったのでしょうか？
大画面が必要(便利)なアプリケーションもあるけど、パーソナルユースで快適なサイズはこれくらいなのかもと思います。
アラン・ケイがジョブスに言っていたのは、ほぼ同じ面積のワイド版だったようですが。

こちらのサイトで拝見したMacintosh Classic を使った iPad スタンド。
我慢しきれず自分でも実践してみました。
CADで図面にするとiPad画面の中心とClassicの画面開口部のズレと、画面サイズの
違いが気になりますが、実際に装着してiPadの表示を見ると全く違和感がありません！
メニュー操作とホームボタン操作は課題ですが、それ以上の満足感を得られますね！
加工図面とても参考になりました。

このビデオを見た時に衝撃に撃たれました。
確かにフロッグデザインの流れを組むmacなのでclassicのモニターの位置に
ipadを置けば見やすいはずです。
私も起動しなくなったclssicIIが押入れに押し込まれていたので早速チャレンジしてみました。
素晴らしいですね。家の中ではclassicIIの筐体を持って歩いています。
安全だし、しっかり支えられていて安心して見ていられます。さすがfrogdesign。
さらにホームボタンにも挑戦してみました。
1.5mm程の穴をホームボタンの位置に開け、裏側に7mm厚ほどの発泡ボードを貼り付け、そこに爪楊枝のクビレから上を通す、さらに発泡ボードをガムテープで固定。これだけでホームボタンもちゃんと押せるようになります。爪楊枝程度の穴なのでそれほど目立ちませんし。満足しております。これでほとんどの操作がフロントパネルから可能になりました。
plusやSEなどの本当のold macベースのスタンド見てみたいです。
素晴らしいアイディアありがとうございました。

classicIIで作成され、ホームボタン問題にも挑戦されたのですね！
わたしもその後ホームボタンについては加工しているので、いずれ公開したいと思います。
それから、clssic IIモデルを拝見したいので、画像などありましたらお知らせいただけるとありがたいです。
確かに Plus や、SE のモデルで実現された方がおられたら見てみたいですね。

CADで図面を起こされたとか、フライス盤を使おうとされたとか、私のいいかげんな工作よりも高度な加工技術を持った方が作られたら、きっちりきれいに仕上がるのでしょうね。
モニターの表示領域ももう少し広げたいとは思っていますが、手作業だとラインが曲がったりしそうでちょっと怖いです。
今私の方はホームボタンが押せるよう加工をしているところです。
Cookie@信州FM さんもホームボタン問題を解決されましたら、また教えてください。

参考にさせて頂きSE/30の筐体をつかってケースを作製いたしました
全域見えるように加工しようか悩みましたが元々のデザインを崩したくないので今のところ拡げることはしてません
BTキーボードはESCキー押してもhomeボタンの代わりにはなりません(;´д⊂
今は隙間から耳かきで押してます

SE/30の筐体で作られたのですね。
YouTubeの方で、他の方もSE/30で製作中とコメントを頂いてたのですが、中の構造が違っていてiPadを載せるのにちょうど良い「爪」が無かったそうですね。
このあたり、で〜らさんはどのように加工されたんでしょう？
よろしければ、完成品の画像など見せていただけたらうれしいです。
それと、BTキーボードの情報もありがとうございます。
ESCキーはhomeボタンの代わりにならないんですね…残念。

爪はありませんがブラウン管を止めておく支柱がちょうどあるので切らずに使ってます
爪の様に平らではないので安定し辛いのでケース側に簡易的な支えを付けました
iPadを入れてしまえば見えないの適当です

IpadにUSBキーボード(Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite 2)を繋いでみるのもいいんですが、やっぱり純正マッククラシックのキーボードをIpadに繋げられたらもっとカッコウいいですね。そのアダップタがあればいいのに。。。
